Description

John Constantine is a man waging war against the forces of darkness — from both within himself and the outside world. An irreverent, working-class con man and occult expert, he’s an experienced exorcist and demonologist with an extensive list of supernatural contacts. Following the aftermath of a tragic incident, Constantine has sworn off investigating matters of the supernatural. But with dark forces gathering power, he reluctantly resumes his old life — allying himself with Manny, a rogue warrior angel; Zed, a psychic with a dark past; and Chas, his only friend who’s managed to stay alive. Reflecting the lore of the fan-favorite comic, CONSTANTINE combines noirish storytelling with the evolving mythology of John Constantine, a morally challenged character who doesn’t come down on the side of either good or evil … but ultimately might be the only thing defending us against the dark forces from beyond.

  • Impeccable!

The first two episodes might be clunky, since they both are essentially like pilots, but from the third episode on... the writers and this show gets on a huge roll. Now with just 13 episodes, which some have considered a bad thing, I disagree--it allows tighter storytelling, and it shows. Every episode tends to have important world building and character building, which is something you can't say for many other shows. Unequivocally one of the best new television series, particularly in the busted open superhero world o television. Don't sleep on this show, and watch LIVE or on NBC's actual site.

I am very pleased to see this comic finally get its due even if it is only a television series, but if you think about it that is about the only way to tell the whole story. As an avid fan of John Constantine Hellblazer series I was just as surprised to find that the original move Constantine only covered a small portion of the story brought to life by Vertigo/DC. While it was a little over dramatized and over acted by Mr. Reeves it still was a decent attempt at telling an extremely difficult story. To clarify the first reviewer, this should not be a remake of the movie Constantine as the movie was not the writing or story line of Garth Ennis. This should be a new take on an old comic and I can't wait, hope everyone watches (even if it is a bomb) so we can keep it on the air.

In a perfect world, this show would have been put on HBO or SHOWTIME. Looking for the moody, brutal and atmospheric world that Alan Moore created? Forget it. This show is campy and slip-shod. It is basically Constantine in the DC Universe, not the Constantine we knew and loved in the Vertigo title. Bollocks.
  • Not a Bad Effort

The pilot seems to have enough of the comicbook elements to make a good show of it. Hope they build on it. Good to see at least the lead has a British accent. Not sure that Chas works as a yellowcab driver, but let's hope they don't feel the need for a fulltime sidekick...
  • Nice Comic Adaption

promising. He even talks like i imagined while reading the comics. Some users like archurban don’t seem to grasp that this is a comic based series.

I watched the ENTIRE season of Constantine on NBC; LOVED it! Couldn't wait for season two. They said it was epic and stay tuned for season two ONLY FOR IT TO BE CANCELLED. But thats not why I'm ticked off. I bought season one via itunes and its NOT COMPLETE! Zed did NOT come into the show on the second episode; THERE ARE SOME MISSING EPISODES! I don't blame apple for that; Its NBC's fault. Check it out for yourself.. If you watched the show you will see...

Be aware, recently streamed this previously purchased episode. Featured the song Anarchy UK which really made the episode an instant classic. Song has been replaced on this episode with God knows what. Very disappointed in iTunes. Should not rewrite artistic history, regardless on who purchased what rights - no excuses... Can only see original unedited version on CW Seed, at least for now. Makes me rethink having gone "online digital." I wasted my money on iTunes!

I love this show! It is refreshing and fun! I really hope the networks wise up and renew it for another season. Too often anything creative and new gets cut in favour of talk shows or some reality TV rubbish. We need more of this!
  • Very Pleasantly Surprised

I don't know the comic books so I can't comment on its faithfulness to the source material, but i watched the first epsiode because it was free. Very pleasantly surprised. The characters were enjoyable and interesting, even if the basic plot is pretty familiar. Something about the cast clicked for me. I can see this becoming a favorite of mine. Will definitely be purchasing the second episode when it comes out. There is a nice edge of darkness to it. If you take some of the darker episodes of Supernatural - which I love - Constantine would fit seemlessly into that world.

A truly awful show that deserved to be canceled. That this crap show got four+ stars is proof that the iTunes rating system is complete garbage. The characters were absolutley unbelievable, the story lines were unoriginal, and the special effects could have been done by a fourth grader.

With out a doubt my favorite comic show that was airing on NBC at the time. Unfortunate that it was canceled due it's late time slot because the show was truly amazingly well done & put together. From casting to set pieces, you couldn't help but watch to see what horrors Constantine would face in each episode & how he would find a way to maneuver out of them. I can only hope that the CW can "kick start" a season 2 of our favorite nicotine addicted magician.
  • Bring back the show

Everyone wants this show to come back, so why give supergirl season 2, to which the show sucked, and not Constantine?

I like Constantine as a character. He is neat. 1) I do not think this actor pulls him off very well. 2) the character of Zed, IMO brings the story down. 3) Their taking the direct comic books and transitioning them into film feels very clumsily done. 4) the writing just feels bad. The production valuse scream 'televsion show', and a cheap one at that. I gave it a chance of 4 episodes and maybe it really takes off after that. I do no, however, see myself throwing good money after bad.

I'd give 6⭐️ if the rating has. This is one of the favorite shows. I'd like to see how it continues in Season 2 and 3 and 4 and until it ends.....
