The Americans is a period drama about the complex marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington D.C. shortly after Ronald Reagan is elected President. The arranged marriage of Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell), who have two children – 13-year-old Paige (Holly Taylor) and 10-year-old Henry (Keidrich Sellati), who know nothing about their parents’ true identity – grows more passionate and genuine by the day, but is constantly tested by the escalation of the Cold War and the intimate, dangerous and darkly funny relationships they must maintain with a network of spies and informants under their control. Complicating their relationship further is Philip’s growing sense of affinity for America’s values and way of life. Tensions also heighten upon the arrival of a new neighbor, Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich), an FBI agent. Stan and his partner, Agent Chris Amador (Maximiliano Hernández), are members of a new division of Counterintelligence tasked with fighting against foreign agents on U.S. soil, including KGB Directorate S illegals, Russian spies posing as Americans.

  • Don't pay for commercials

    By Skreba
Paid $.99 for the Pilot. Show was decent enough…but definitely not enough to sit through commercials after paying for a show. Fox does this on their main shows (see New Girl) and now they're doing it on subsidiary networks. Don't know about you, but I refuse to pay for shows with ads.
  • FX is saving TV

    By XB47
Truly original with excellent plot, script, acting, direction, and backdrop. I think anyone would enjoy this show, and I was hooked 5 minutes into the pilot. FX/USA are making network television look lazy. Suits, White Collar, Breaking Bad, Justified...the whole lot of these original series are fantastic. I put The Americans right at the top of any list. Enjoy.
  • Remove the annoying commercials!

    By Matt Langston
To FX: Remove your annoying commercials for your other shows or I will continue to give "The Americans" low 1 star ratings. I pay you (and Apple) a premium of $1.99 per episode so that I can avoid your frustrating commercials.
  • Epic Cold War Drama!

    By Chris_93
This is a huge win for FX, I have yet to hear any negative feedback for the pilot. I enjoyed it and I look forward to wednesday nights now!
  • Excellent

An exceptional drama. The acting and writing are well done. I'm looking forward to more.
  • good show very bad advertising.

    By The Mad Erik
Good show - I am a covert history enthusiast and I love how they humanize the cold war spying in this show. Captures some of the period paranoia as well. If the ads continue I will either go elsewhere for my content or stop watching all shows that are found to contain them. I pay for shows in iTunes to not have ad content. If Apple and their content providers continue this, they will loose revinue from both myself and my family. Two stars due to commercials, would have been five without.
  • Atmospheric, tense and evocative

    By Gallifrey One
The Americans is a bold and daring piece of television. Well done, FX. I can see the fingerprints of Graham Yost (Justified, Falling Skies) in the taut action set pieces, and the acting is terrific. I tell people that this shows has the heroes as KGB agents, and the FBI as the antagonists - and that is often enough to engage their interest. The fact that it is also very well made should be enough to hook them as well.
  • Inspired

Okay, not that it matters but I'm a TV producer and I liked this show. It's very well done. The opening act is very strong. It made me smile. I love the premise and despite the male eye liner it's a compelling show. It slowed down towards the fifth act but it held up at the end. I'll be following this one.
  • Tries to be too clever...fails

Just never turns the corner...should have been darker...the idea is good, but the production is ham-handed. too bad
  • We'll see

    By houston john
Loved the atmosphere of the first episode, and the great use of 80s music - the chase scene with "Tusk" playing was inspired. Since then it's felt a bit flat - clearly so much care was taken in that first hour, and then it just stopped and it's been pretty routine. I'm curious enough to keep watching but I hope it revs back up to where it was at the beginning.

  • ☭ This is so great

    By Sergey Saks
Очень понравился сериал. Легко смотреть и сюжет захватывающий. Всегда хотел узнать как обстояли дела back then. It pretty much gives the idea. Love it 😍 🇺🇸 ☭

Unrealstic fight sequences, showis a 100 lb women taking down a 230 lb guy - crazy silly. It simply is not believable. We should never have commercials, if we paid for the show, just saying.
  • Superb Cold War-era KGB Spycraft

    By Valensj
One of the best spy dramas on TV right now (comparable to if not better than Homeland) depicting the Reagan years of the Cold War from the unique perspective of two married KGB sleeper agents. I was pleasantly surprised that FX produced such a great drama that is top notch on all fronts - superb acting, well cast, intricate plot development, and a spot as an 80s period piece. This show only gets better with each season, one of the very few shows I subscribe to each season on my Apple TV. Don’t miss out on this one.
  • boycott commercials

    By Jannkenn
I come here to avoid the commercials and yet pay my share for the show. I see the season price is discounted but I would gladly buy the season and pay more for it without the commercials. I won´t buy even another episode because of them. Pity.
  • Good start.

I cannot wait to see Amazon show the rest in 2016. :)
  • put it

    back on sale!!!
  • It's not Homeland S1 but still good.

    By Karrytos
Great series, dark but not deep -read realistic, enough. Intel ops have a wide range of influence. T.As. Only shows the spy couple going about their daily American family/ Soviet spies life, just following orders. Interesting but could have gone further.
  • Not bad for tv

    By nocrickets
A pretty good series, based on a fun premise. Not great, however. The writing is sometimes really clunky and shows the writers' (a) age, when they get details about how people thought and talked in the 80s just plain wrong (e.g., NO one in the early 1980s would have to explain who "this actress, Jodie Foster" was), and (b) their ignorance about Washington DC -- e.g., NO one in the DC metro says "southeast DC." Maybe since they shoot the show on Long Island they figured they'd get a by, but a smidgen of homework would've helped. Why didn't they just ask their parents? Still, it's well acted, and the plots are no sillier than on any other tv show of this fantasy-espionage genre, and it moves along pretty briskly and with some real tension and suspense. Taken with a few grains of salt it's decent entertainment.
  • More yawn than wow

    By SeattleKK
Reviews are significantly overrated. Moderately interesting, but rather pedestrian overall. Not a wow series by any means.
  • Good writing, good plot, good fun

    By Robert_S_Welch
I hope the 2nd season’s as good as the first. Also, they must have removed the commercials that people were complaining about - there weren’t any commercials in any of the episodes I downloaded.
