Description

Hancock : Academy Award nominee Will Smith (Best Actor, The Pursuit of Happyness, 2006) stars in this action-packed comedy as Hancock, a sarcastic, hard-living and misunderstood superhero who has fallen out of favor with the public. When Hancock grudgingly agrees to an extreme makeover from idealistic publicist Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman, Juno), his life and reputation rise from the ashes and all seems right again--until he meets a woman (2003 Academy Award winner Charlize Theron, Best Actress, Monster) with similar powers to his and the key to his secret past.

The first half of this movie is an absoloute masterpiece. Hilarious. The second half is rather confusing though, thanks to the plot twist. Still, you should watch it.

This movie is (alittle) different (in a good way) and funny, but the unrated version with the additional scenes is better, that being said(or in this case, written), where is the unrated version??? Bring it back. Thanks. The extra footage adds more flavor and entertainment to the movie.

It took me a while to see this movie, and I didn't quite know what to expect from the reviews and ratings it received. I was also wary of the supposed plot twist that ruined the movie for quite a few people. I'm a big fan of superhero movies, and judging from the trailers, it didn't look like any superhero movie I've seen before. So, how did it turn out in the end? Actually, pretty well. I liked the interesting angle that the film took when looking at superhero movies. Like in Iron Man (one of my favorite movies of all time), the hero doesn't start out as the heroic type. However, Will Smith prefers to play his character with a more bitter and depressed edge to him, rather than Downey's confident and cool style. Both approaches work well, and Smith gives Hancock a surprising amount of depth, when others might have made him shallow. The plot twist in the third act was undeniably strange. I mean, of all the superhero origin stories, this one is probably the weirdest. Also, it is just plain hard to follow. Does this would break the movie, then? Actually, no. The story doesn't require that you know every detail of its twist to keep moving forward with the story. And from there, one of my greatest compliments to the movie sees us through: the performances of Smith, Theron, and Bateman. All of them react to the twist in very relatable and well-acted ways. Without those actors in their roles, the twist would have failed miserably. One of my bigger problems with the film is that its villain is weak. He was kind of shoe-horned into the movie, and I come to expect more from superhero villains than what was given. Also, there were some moments that I thought were too wrong for the movie. They added to the irreverence of Smith's character, but I didn't like them personally. In the end, it's the performances of Will Smith, Charlize Theron, and Jason Bateman that keep this movie out of mediocrity. The movie is worth seeing for their acting alone. Not to say that's the only good thing about it, though. It's funny, it's unique, and it is well worth at least one viewing. Four stars for Hancock, and here's to the sequel that is soon to come!

I was just looking around for movies when this movie, Hancock caught my eye. I watched the preview and it looked pretty good. My parents said it sucked but I decided to buy it anyway. This movie was awesome. It had a tad of romance, action, and comedy. I can't wait for the sequel in 2014.
