Elf : One Christmas Eve a long time ago, a baby crawled into Santa's bag of toys... Raised as an elf, Buddy grows into an adult three times larger than the biggest elf--and realizes that he will never truly fit in at the North Pole. This holiday season, Buddy goes looking for his true place in the world--in New York City. Buddy finds his workaholic father…who's on Santa's "naughty" list, a new mother and a 10-year-old brother who doesn't believe in Santa Claus or elves. Here, now, Buddy discovers his destiny…to save Christmas for New York and the world! Starring Golden Globe and Emmy Award-nominee Will Ferrell ("Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," TV's "Saturday Night Live"), Academy Award, Golden Globe and Emmy Award-nominee James Caan ("The Godfather," "Funny Lady"), Golden Globe-winner and Emmy Award-nominee Bob Newhart (TV's "Newhart," "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde"), Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winner Edward Asner (TV's "Lou Grant," "JFK"), Academy Award and Golden Globe-winner Mary Steenburgen ("The Brave One," "Melvin and Howard") and Zooey Deschanel ("Almost Famous," "Failure to Launch").

If burping and farting humor is your thing or if you can stand an adult behaving like a (prety stupid) child for the duration 97 minutes, this is your flick. I like Will Ferrell but we switched off after about very long and relatively boring 35 minutes, not even our almost 5 year old son thought it was funny he demanded a better movie after only about 10 minutes. No clue how this got a 83% / 78% on Rotten Tomatoes. It appeared, as if the movie and its humor did not age very well.

This movie is hilarious. I watch it every year and has become a classic in my house. It's great because all ages can enjoy the movie. I've watched it with people as young as five to 60 years old, all of which loved it too. Will Ferrell is great in this with perfect comedic timing. Even the Elf suit he wears is funny. The story is about a young baby who snuck into Santa's bag full of toys at an orphanage on christmas. When Santa and the elves find out what happened they decided to raise the baby (now named Buddy). The movie follows an older Buddy, (Will Ferrell) as he discovers he is in fact a human and not an Elf. This involves Buddy going to New York to meet his father and along the way he gets into some funny antics and falls for a girl (Zooey Deschanel). All in all this movie probably ties with A Christmas Story with being the funniest Christmas movie to watch.

I like this movie because it's not one of those cheap, overrated, "new" disney movies. Will does a great job acting in this movie, and the part he plays is just so comical, you can't help but laugh!
  • I love this movie!

This movie is one of my favorite movies. I'll watch it anytime, not just during the holidays. I never get tired of watching it. It is a great family movie and super funny. Great job Will Farrell! :)
  • A new Christmas Classic!

"Elf" is a hilarious, family friendly Holiday Adventure! The film has an all-star cast, including Will Farrell, James Caan, Bob Newhart, Ed Asner, Mary Steenburgen, Andy Richter, and the beautiful Zoey Deschanel. Meanwhile, director Jon Favreau and Peter "You'll Shoot Your Eye Out" Billingsley make humorous cameos, as well. This is a hilarious film, and well worth the investment. Now, we only need "Christmas Vacation" and "A Christmas Story" for the Holiday Hat-Trick!

  • One of the best original Christmas movies!

What better way to celebrate the Holidays then with 'Elf'? What a great way to take classic Holiday tales and combine them into one original and entertaining comedy. I'm not a huge Will Ferrel fan, but this is by far one of his best movies. I watch this at least a couple times around the Holidays. It's a movie the whole family can enjoy.

Great film, Will Ferrell has come a long way since his early days of Saturday Night Live specials. Elf bring quite a mix of genres as far as Ferrell's carrer goes, blending from adult humor, drama, fantasy as well as youthful entertainment. Jon Favreau has from my perspective ranked up to be a director/screenwriter worth looking into with this film as a success to his most recent work "Iron Man" which he most notably produced and I think co-wrote the screenplay for. But this from my point of view ranks to be one of Will Ferrell's most accomplished films he's starred in to date, great movie that from my perspective has been conceptualy made to bring out the inner spark of youth and innocence.
