Beirut : Jon Hamm stars as Mason Skiles, a former U.S. diplomat, who gets sent to Beirut to negotiate a swap for the release of a terrorist leader, believed to be imprisoned by Israeli secret police, in exchange for a CIA agent who has been kidnapped. Confronted by ghosts from his past, Mason faces a formidable question: Who do you trust in a world where the truth emerges only when it's convenient – or profitable? From the writer of the Bourne trilogy, this taut action thriller also stars Rosamund Pike and Dean Norris and is being hailed by critics as "tense & ever-twisting" (Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times).

Obviously not going to be one if your favorite movies but was definitely worthy watching. I’ve been disappointed quite a few times by movies with good reviews but not a lot publicity. This was not the case with this movie. Quality story line to go along with good acting. Definitely worth the rental fee for an evening at hone.
  • NOT Beirut !

    By Unseen Mirrors
This looks NOTHING like beirut city ! Shame that they are showing the beautiful city Beirut in a way that looks NOTHING like it. Do NOT believe what you see in this movie, instead look up beirut city online and you would see how beautiful Beirut is.

I love John Hamm and think pretty highly of Tony Gilroy. But this movie is just utter crap. Weak and contrived and tedious.
  • worth renting

I rented this when it was the iturns $0.99 rental of the week. It was interesting, kept my attention, and came across to me as a credible look at a time and place I don't often get to see in a movie. Solid performances, filmmaking, and production values. I ended up glad that I rented it and I would recommend it -- it's well worth the time to watch.
  • Pretty Good

I guess the reviews are like Beirut - it all depends on who you ask. the 99cents rental offer was a must for me. I thought it was really good political thriller. Jon Hamm and Rosamund Pike make an incredible duo in this movie! Highly recommended!

For .99 cents, that was a darn good movie.
  • Close to the real thing

This one feels close to the real thing. It’s not your typical 007 or MI. That’s kind of how things work in the real world.

An entertaining political thriller that will keep you engaged . . . until the rather unsatisfying ending.
  • Good movie

I didn’t think I was gonna like this, but it turned out to be a good movie. It’s well done.

The political bile is strong in this one...if the trailer was an honest preview of the move.

  • Entertaining and Interesting worth the price!

I read all of the reviews on here and the negative reviews put me off. They were so one sided I figured I would take a chance. Im very pleased with this purchase. For me this is my 600th iTunes movie. Tony Gilroy, did an amazing job with writing this film. Ive never been to Beirut, but I have spent much of my adult life overseas in high conflict areas as an Airborne Infantry Soldier and much of this film reminds me of Iraq. Either way, John Hamm really outdid himself in this film and I hope he gets noticed for his role here. Ive watched him in MadMen and later in "The Town", but to date this is his best performance. On the other side, I really dont like Rosamund Pike, but Hamms performace carried her. Im sure that many people wont like this film because of the conflict that exists in this part of the world but it doesnt make it less important. Maybe in the end, this story needed to be told for that very reason. This is a movie that I will watch often. Also, the extra conent in here is pretty weak, but the movie itself makes up for it.
  • Highly entertaining well done

All the actors are great and the movie is a fast pace believable and well made. Don't listen to the negativity, its perfect for a movie at home. I would watch it two or three more times easily. Think Argo level tension and you have Beruit.
  • Tense, Gripping, Not Gimmicky

    By Elbobcat
Some critics are praising the movie "despite its flaws" but for me this was a perfect film for a night at home when I'm ready to actually pay attention to something versus just throwing on a mainstream special-effects-fest. In short, the writing delivered a gripping, exciting plot and in the complex political environment with multiple interests complicating a seemingly straightforward, albeit high-stakes, negotiation. Excellent performances, skilled use of action, quality filmmaking all around.
  • Old formula

As usual, the terrorists are the obvious bad guys but we Americans are the latent bad guys and Hollywood has been feeding us this crap since 9/11/01.

Don’t believe the media reviews. This film has top notch acting (John Hamm especially) and is well-paced. Very suspenseful and full of action and intrigue.
  • Entertaining Look into the Past

Quite entertaining with a good storyline, excellent acting and an intriguing backdrop. Had quite a few twists and turns with enough excitement sprinkled in to keep you watching throughout. Certainly worth a watch.
  • Impressive!

A lot of spy movies are lacking the big picture and are written for a teenager who likes explosions. The screenplay here is for an adult who has an interest in Cold War politics and has seen a few movies about the CIA. Action scenes are realistic but not over done. The mix of different languages is pleasing to the ear and it’s fun to see the retro tech like a belt tracker and tracing frequencies from walkie talkies. Special thanks to the folks who put this one together. Well done!
  • Rosamund Rules

    By Brilliant Madness
She's one of my top three actresses - never disappoints - from Pride & Prejudice to Gone Girl, where she performs the greatest kill scene of the last decade. Still hoping she will try to beat it!
  • Best Sundance Film

This film was one of my absolute favorites I have ever seen at Sundance (which I told my whole family right after seeing it). Well acted and well written and thought through story.
