Masterminds : In this action comedy inspired by true events, directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite; Nacho Libre), David Ghantt (Zach Galifianakis) discovers the true meaning of adventure far beyond his wildest dreams. He is an uncomplicated man stuck in a monotonous life. Day in and day out he drives an armored vehicle, transporting millions of other people’s money with no escape in sight. The only glimmer of excitement is his flirtatious work crush Kelly Campbell (Kristen Wiig) who soon lures him into the scheme of a lifetime. Along with a group of half-brained criminals led by Steve Chambers (Owen Wilson) and an absurdly faulted heist plan, David manages the impossible and makes off with $17 million in cash…only problem is he foolishly hands the money over to this wild group of double crossers and has been set up to take the fall. With the bandits blowing the millions on lavish and ridiculous luxuries, they leave behind a glaring trail of evidence. Now on the lam and in over his head, David must dodge the authorities, evade a hilarious hit man, Mike McKinney (Jason Sudeikis), and try to turn the tables on the ones he trusted most.

I cannot in good conscience recommend watching Masterminds. Likewise I can’t not recommend watching Masterminds.
  • No, just no

The names made me rent it, but it truly was a waste of time.
  • Poor Reviews, Still Really Funny

    By Code Red1980
Contrary to people and Rotten Tomatoes reviews, this movie got plenty of laughs from me. Critics, for whatever reason, pick apart these comedies because they are looking for something fresh. It doesn't mean it's not funny! This was a very typical Galifinakis movie. Great charachter for him to play. I wouldn't put this as funnier than Hangover, but funnier than Hangover 2 & 3. It's worth a watch. I rented it twice in 2 months because there are some hilarious parts in it. Sorry to those who hated this movie but i needed a laugh and I got one from this.
  • Fun time for the family

    By JimmyMonkeyBrains
I'm always looking for a goofy movie for the family pizza night, and usually they're way over the top taking themselves too seriously, or pushing some agenda. So it was just fun to sit and have a laugh.
  • Just don't do it 👎

Terribly bad and the real joke is if you rent or buy it. Sorry but imho it stunk. 😶
  • Hilarious, ignore Rotten Tomatoes

I usually agree with Rotten Tomatoes reviews, but they were way too harsh on this movie. If you liked the Hangover, you'll like Masterminds. Give it a chance. You'll be glad you did. I laughed so hard, I cried. I'm a big fan of Kristin Wiig and Zach G. Great comedy
  • Dumb

Too dumb to be funny. Not worth the rental fee. Would not watch it again even if it was free.

    Waste of time and money.
  • Watch it for the photoshoot alone!

Pretty funny movie- the engagement photoshoot was the best thing I've seen in a long time!
  • Mind numbing

I don't write reviews for anything hardly ever. This was right up there with a (recent) Adam Sandler film: An absolute waste of time with actors relying on their names and past successes to sell you this drivel. I'm actually dumber after watching this. MERICA!

  • Based on a true story...

    By Awe Heal
now add Owen Wilson & Zack Crapilopolous and you got a movie that is more goofy than true. An SNL reunion fest kept it goofy and made for some good laughs. I like that movie "edumacated" me about the "true" parts of this movie.

    Kate McKinnon is a genius.
  • Funny, sweet film

How lucky we are that critics over the age of 50 feel qualified weighing in on Jared Hess films. They must be real hoots at the community center dinner parties as they quote lines from Neil Simon plays. So Hess, get off the lawn. In the meantime, if you want to watch a funny movie — without permission from AARP — watch this one.
  • Hilarious

I haven't seen a movie that made me laugh this much since the original Dumb and Dumber movie. My wife and I don't always have the same taste in comedies, but we both loved this movie.

  • Funny

I think the funniest thing about it is that it's based on a true story and it's so outrageous! Super funny we enjoyed this one! 😂

I really liked this movie! A few great laugh out loud moments.

You know that when all the reviews reek of "sound bytes" & sound like propaganda that the film must stink. It's impossible to find any REAL reviews written by REAL customers on iToons or Umazon anymore. Even the trailer for this film is awful. Hey, Studios, please keep your corporate paws out of the review sections. We're sick to death of being manipulated & treated like sheep. Go Fook yourselves!
  • A Fun Movie

    By Sockotaco
Zach G, Wilson, Kate McKinnon, and Wigg are great together. If you like any of them you won't be disappointed. Has some minor Napoleon Dynamite flourishes from the director too. Good stuff!
  • Too goofy to be funny.

    By 700 Pages
Too goofy to be funny or interesting. Outrageous doesn't always mean funny, and leave it to SNL people to not be able to figure that out. I'm tired of all the SNL networking on projects, they become something where they can get their friends work and do what they want rather that focusing on a movie or story or even comedy. Could have been WAY better, this was too goofy to enjoy.
